Mopar® and Dodge brands have been awarded the 2016 NHRA Manufacturers Cup for earning the most points for qualifying and the most category victories in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series. Points are given to auto manufacturers based on race finishes at national and divisional events (winner, runner-up and qualifier).

When the smoke from all of this season’s races had cleared, Mopar-powered Dodge drivers had claimed 15 national event victories. The current-year Mopar Dodge Charger R/T Funny Cars and Dodge Dart Pro Stocks led the pack.

The season-long quest for points saw drivers Matt Hagan, Tommy Johnson Jr., Jack Beckman and Allen Johnson all pitch in with great performances in their categories. But the icing on the cake came at the NHRA Finals in Pomona, California, where Ron Capps commanded his Don Schumacher Racing (DSR) Mopar Dodge Charger R/T to victory, pushing the competition for the Cup to a distant second.

Representatives from Mopar received the Manufacturers Cup in front of the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series award ceremony, which was held in Hollywood the day after the NHRA Finals.

Pietro Gorlier, Head of Parts and Service (Mopar), FCA – Global, was proud to see his team bring home the award. “It is a great honor for Mopar and Dodge brands to receive NHRA’s coveted Manufacturers Cup,” he said. “This award is very meaningful to us.”
