Route Recap: SRT Tour week eight.
The SRT Tour crew lives in four different parts of the country and we took a few days off recently to visit our families. But when we got back, we hit the ground running.
Up first was a stopover in Flagstaff, Arizona, and all four of us were truly impressed. "This is not what I think of when I hear the word 'Arizona,'" said Rachel. "Flagstaff's beautiful hills and tall evergreen trees feel more like the northwest corner of the USA, not a state known more for desert and cactus."
Speaking of desert, when we got to Phoenix the plan was to meet up with the Arizona Viper Club for dinner at a local drive-in. Wannabe meteorologist Sean said, "Mother Nature challenged us first with a haboob." Yes, that's a real word. A haboob is a dust storm and ours was 2,500 feet high and 30 miles wide, landing directly over the side of town where we planned to meet. Despite that, the club brought out a great variety of cars, and dinner was a blast as we shared stories.
The next day we wheeled a couple hours east for an evening with the Tucson Mopar Club. We visited this club on last year's SRT Tour and they came through with a bang, again. Part car show, part cookout and we owe great thanks to Tucson Dodge for the hospitality.
Michael's Collision back in Phoenix was up next for their annual Mod Day. "Michael is a member of the Arizona LX Club," says Jen. "He and his wife, Melissa, open their shop's doors to club members who do all kinds of work on their cars." Suspension swaps, cooling upgrades and more were going on while the rest of us judged the car show and grilled lunch. They even awarded us a trophy for "Longest Distance" traveled to be there.
John grabbed the map and pointed out that, "We're headed back east now: next week is Amarillo, St Louis, Nashville and Birmingham. If you're nearby, come join the fun and remember to follow us turn-by-turn on Instagram and Twitter @SRTTour."
