Route Recap: SRT Tour week four.
Our fourth update wraps up our first month on the road. “Hard to believe we’re already one-third done with the SRT Tour,” said Jen. This week’s travels took us to Plymouth, Michigan, where we spent Sunday at the Concours of the Americas; one of the most prestigious car competitions in the country. SRT President and CEO Ralph Gilles was a judge at the show and we got to spend the day up close and personal with some incredible cars.
On top of that, legendary Chrysler designer Tom Gale was inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame at the show and some of his most imaginative cars were on display to showcase his work. According to Sean, “Gale was the man behind cab-forward design and helped usher in the Prowler and Viper.”
During this year’s SRT Tour, we are visiting some of our well-known partners. Early on, we stopped by Harman Kardon®, suppliers of our audio systems and some navigation systems in the SRTs.
This week, we got to visit the folks behind our SRT’s incredible stopping power: Brembo®. Their North American headquarters welcomed us and a group of SRT enthusiasts who were treated to a question and answer session with Brembo brake engineers. “We learned that brake dust may be a bit of a nuisance to clean up, but it’s there because the number one goal with SRT brakes is performance…and boy do they perform,” said John “Hammer” Palazzolo. “Brembo is so proud of what they’ve done with our Jeep® Grand Cherokee SRT brakes, they actually have one on display in their lobby.”
We’ve been asked often about the new 2013 SRT Viper. And while the new SRT Viper is sure to be a smash hit as a street car, this past weekend SRT Motorsports debuted the racing version, the SRT Viper GTS-R, in the American Le Mans Series.
A solid first race weekend saw SRT drivers Kuno Wittmer and Dominik Farnbacher grab a top-10 finish with no mechanical issues. Faithful fans know more speed will come with development and we’re confident you’ll see Viper up front soon. The SRT Tour was on hand as SRT used our cars on display to show the fans at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course just how impressive our cars are. Even a bit of rain couldn’t put a damper on the fun at the track.
This coming week is a visit to Bilstein® US; the American home to this iconic performance suspension brand. After that, we’re rolling to Bowling Green, Kentucky, Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum and finally up to Joliet, Illinois, to say “Hi” to the SRT Track Experience.
Until then, drive safely.
