Autoweek test drives the 2012 300 SRT®.
When it comes to test driving cars, Autoweek is a reliable source. With a staff of well-versed autophiles, the renowned publication puts each vehicle they test through rigorous evaluation.
The 300 SRT recently found its way into the Autoweek garage in the Motor City. Six staffers took to the pavement and offered their reviews of the muscular grand touring sedan. The 300 SRT received glowing marks for its design, power, performance and luxury.
"I liked the first-gen 300 SRT8, but this 2012 Chrysler 300 SRT is way better in every way," said one Autoweek staffer. "The wrapper is sharper, and the interior is acres of soft-touch materials and leather ahead of the original. That's a credit to the redone 300, but in this top-level performance version, everything really stands out."
Autoweek staffers gave high marks to the 300 SRTs 470 horsepower HEMI® V-8. They also were keen on the exterior, especially the front and rear fascias, lower ride height, 20-inch wheels and dual exhaust tips. On the interior, the SRT-exclusive seats that are deeply bolstered, the flat-bottom steering wheel and real carbon-fiber trim, all were placed high on the list of likes.
"This is the ultimate sleeper sedan," one Autoweek staffer said. "And I mean this specific iteration: low-slung, black, sporty wheels and fast as hell. Frankly, this 300 SRT looks almost as much like a police car as it does a hot rod. Perfect."
Autoweek test drives hundreds of new cars each year and to have all six who wheeled the 300 SRT offer high praise is saying something.
"To put it simply, I want it," said one staffer. "Enough said."
