Owner Profile: Pete Ramos, Longmont, Colorado
First Mopar My first car was a 1964 Dodge Dart GT - a 225 Slant Six, four-speed. It had the biggest air conditioning unit I had ever seen in a car. I am not sure if it was factory-installed or aftermarket, but it sure took up a large portion beneath my dash.
In the garage I am the proud and very satisfied owner of a Toxic Orange 2011 Challenger SRT8 392 with a six-speed. I traded a Hemi Orange 2009 Challenger SRT8 automatic for it a couple of months ago, because I could – and, you know, it’s a guy thing.
Favorite stretch of road It has to be I-70 from Green River, Utah to the I-15 interchange. The beauty of the country, the canyon lands, rock formations and the solitude are fantastic. The road has always been well-maintained and the traffic is relatively light when I drive it.
The second choice would be the Pacific Coast Highway from Los Angeles to San Francisco. You have to drive it to believe it.
Farthest you've driven to meet with a fellow car enthusiast I once drove from Denver, Colorado to Ocala, Florida for a car show at the Don Garlits Drag Racing Museum. It was to meet up with a fellow Mopar fan that I had met at a car show in Dallas, Texas.
Racing or cruising I have not raced the car at this point. I like cruising in the Denver and Longmont areas. I participate in cruises with other enthusiasts at times during the summer.
Hard-core proof of SRT dedication I had a heart attack in 2009. I had been to numerous shows where the new Challenger SRT8 was on display, and every time I saw one, I said I would love to get one. I always wanted a Hemi car, so after the artery cleaning and stents were placed, I realized this "woulda, shoulda, coulda" has got to stop. Several months ago, when I had my 2009 SRT8 in for normal service, my salesman asked if I was ready to upgrade as he had a nice selection of 392 Hemis on the lot. My friend handed me a bunch of keys and said, "Pick one out that you like."
Voilà. I am now a proud owner of a 2011 Challenger. I imagine that shows hardcore dedication.
Club Affiliations I belong to the Colorado Challenger Club. I participate with some online forums. I meet monthly at predetermined location for a snack and drinks with friends and I plan local daylong cruises to the mountains or various locations.
