Viper ACR-X racers return to the grid for year three of SRT Viper Cup presented by Pennzoil Ultra racing in 2012. The poisonous road racing series earns a new name and visits four new tracks in its third year. Rule changes are also introduces to improve the excitement. The series also earns a new name following the introduction of SRT as an independent brand.

The ACR-X is set to terrorize four new tracks in 2012. Road Atlanta hosts rounds one and two in April, followed by a trip to Road America the following month. SRT Viper Cup racers return to a familiar Virginia International Raceway for rounds five and six. Fans from the Empire State are sure to enjoy the second half of the season as the final two race weekends are held at Monticello Motor Club and Watkins Glenn International.

Competition is enhanced for year three with the implementation of a new rule package. The starting grid for Sunday’s events will be the inverse of Saturday’s finish order, rather than qualifying sessions as in years past. This rule change is employed to enrich fan experience as faster drivers are now forced to slither through traffic as they make their way to the front.

“The SRT Viper Cup Series continues to offer a fantastic way for road-racing enthusiasts to compete in our ultimate American sports car,” said President and CEO, SRT and Motorsports Ralph Gilles. “The 2010 Dodge Viper ACR-X is designed and built specifically for the race track by taking all the performance attributes of Viper to an even higher level for a wide range of drivers starting with the grassroots racer all the way up to the professional. And with the rule changes for the 2012 season such as the inverted race field for Sunday races along with the continuation of our celebrity driver program, the next chapter of Viper racing looks to be better than ever.”
