Dodge Viper Record Tour '11

The street-legal SRT Viper ACR attacks road courses across the globe in 2011.
Posted on Feb 13, 2012

The Viper ACR has been repeatedly described as the pinnacle of street-legal performance vehicles. Its wide range of abilities gives it the capability to serve as a daily driver, but hold its own on the track. Having already broken a handful of production lap records, the Viper ACR is ready to inject its venom into several more tracks across the country. This summer, the most potent factory-built street-legal Viper will slither across the country with the hopes of setting even more records.

Shortly after its launch in August 2008, the ACR terrorized the infamous Nürburgring, where it set a new world record for the fastest production vehicle to traverse the 12.8-mile Nordschleife with a time of 7:22.1. Nürburgring Video Link

In late 2009, SRT vehicle dynamics engineer Chris Winkler circled Laguna Seca Raceway in 1:33.92, beating the previous record by more than a second. In celebration of the record-breaking run, Dodge crafted 33 unique 1:33 Edition ACRs featuring a number of unique touches including a reverse red-on-black color scheme. Setting the bar high on the Top Gear U.S.A. series premiere, the ACR circled the show’s track in 1:22. Through the end of the first season, the ACR remains in the number one position.

2011 opened up with an early record-breaking lap by Dodge driver Kuno Wittmer at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah. Wittmer piloted the ACR to a time of 1:59.995, eclipsing the previous record by over four seconds. The ACR is also the first production car to break the two minute mark.

The 2011 Viper Cup season kicked off at Sebring International Raceway, an excellent venue for yet another excellent time. Series driver Ben Keating took to the wheel, posting a best lap time of 2:19.473. Read the full story here.

New Jersey Motorsports Park is the latest road course to have its previous record obliterated. Lapping the road course in 1:28.084, Kuno Wittmer eclipsed the previous time by an awe-inspiring 12 seconds.

With a growing list of records on its resume, Dodge and the Viper ACR will set out across the United States in an effort to break even more lap times. Over the next few months, the ACR will visit several more tracks in an effort to break or set the street-legal record at each and every venue visited.

Those attending Dodge events this summer have a chance to witness history, as the ACR will run in conjunction with numerous scheduled track-day events. The record attempts will fall in line with this summer’s SRT Track Experience, Viper Days and Dodge Viper Cup events.

Well into its second year of competition, the spec-series Viper Cup is slated to visit Virginia International Raceway and Texas World Speedway before the season’s final race at Daytona International Raceway in October. Track Experience invites SRT owners and non-owners alike to come out to learn what it takes to get the most from an SRT, with quality first-hand experience.
