Wagner Ebrahim Wins Historic Battle in Brazil GT

Posted on Aug 16, 2011

Curitaba, Brazil, Sunday July 24 – Wagner Ebrahim’s Viper GT3 Coupe took first in a photo finish with the Ford GT of Valdeno Brito in the fifth round of the Itaipava GT Brazil. The two went side by side on the last corner and crossed the finish line together, pressured by the third-place team of Xandinho Negrão and his father, Xandy Negrão. Only 0.151 second separated them, a record-close finish for the Brazil GT Series. Ibrahim also took a third place podium position the day before in the first of two weekend races.

"It was a brilliant finish, since at no time did Valdeno and I play unfairly,” said Ibrahim. “From the halfway point of the race, my rear tires were worn and I had much difficulty with grip to the end. But the car was good, it was exciting and everyone is pleased by the result. It is very good to win at home," celebrated Ebrahim, who had also won here in 2010.

"I knew it would be difficult to pass,” said Brito. “In fact, that was my only chance in the race, in the last curve. I tried to get around, but was in the dirt, and when I accelerated I lacked ‘motô,’” he joked, explaining how Ibrahim took the advantage as they accelerated out of the corner. "But I knew that it would be difficult to pass,” he added. “In the curves, our performance was similar, but on the straight the Viper is unbeatable."

Third-placed, Xandinho Negrão, watched everything closely, crossing the finish line only 0.269 second behind the Ebrahim. Juliano Moro/Paulo Boniface arrived in fourth and Vanue Faria/Renan War rose finished fifth.
