Legends never die. They just get better with time. Radar Red gained its fame as an interior color back in the 60s and 70s in the muscle-flexing Dodge Chargers and Challengers. The iconic shade and texture is now back in the scene as an option for modern SRT vehicles.
Two of the masterminds behind the reincarnation of Radar Red are LaShirl Turner, Head of Color & Materials and Dan Zimmerman, Interior Design Manager. Each played a vital role in the resurgence of Radar Red.
Most shades of red look the same, but designers know different. LaShirl and Dan poured over hundreds of variations before settling on the one that provides luminary perfection resembling the original. Finding the right texture meant spending countless hours studying leather swatches and grains. In the end, designers chose plush Nappa leather, tinted to their exacting standards. The Radar Red of today is an adaptation of the original Radar Red that debuted five decades ago.
Grains and hues aside, the moment of truth comes when the door is opened. This is when Radar Red shines. Eye-catching and vibrant, the interior makes its mark on all that observe its beauty. Fans of nostalgia are instantly taken back to a time when muscle ruled the streets.
Relive the nostalgia. Radar Red is available as an option on the Charger and 300, and has recently become available for the 2012 Challenger SRT8.
