The ultimate modern American muscle coupe is back with a vengeance. The 2013 Challenger SRT® is raw power personified, with bold, aggressive styling inside and out. Fueled by the storied 392 HEMI® V-8, harnessed by world-class suspension and superior brakes, the legend of the Challenger SRT continues.
There's an old saying - "Form follows function." No one passes a Challenger SRT® on the street without a second look. Those double-takes occur thanks to an exterior design that defines what a sleek speed machine should be. It's why the Challenger SRT looks fast, even when standing still. The front splitter and fascia aid the Challenger as it reaches top speeds of 182 mph with a manual transmission (175 mph automatic). The distinct "392" badging calls out the legendary powerplant that drives the Challenger, which rolls on available 20-inch lightweight forged aluminum wheels.
The heart of a beast beats beneath the hood of the Challenger SRT®. Pop the hood and peek at the ground-pounding 392 HEMI® V-8, pumping out 470 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. Torque comes on strong and doesn't stop until 4,200 rpm, and horsepower doesn't quit until 6-grand.
If the transmission feels a bit "Snake"-like, it's because the robust six-speed Tremec manual comes right from the ultimate American sports car — the SRT Viper with standard launch control. Simply amazing.
The Challenger SRT® is a speedy, versatile chameleon, offering up to three distinct driving modes to match almost any road condition. Courtesy of the Adaptive Damping Suspension (ADS), set the ride and handling capability of your Challenger SRT to match the street and your mood.
For less challenging roads, choose "Auto" mode for a fun, yet civil ride; switch to "Sport" mode when you need to get up on the wheel and tap into the increased handling and road feel that comes with a firmer suspension; and when you've got an itch that needs to be scratched, blast into "Track" mode and unite responsive suspension with quicker shift points. Core models feature a single-mode (firm) Blstein suspension.
Going fast is great, but you eventually have to stop (at least to gas up). The Challenger SRT® boasts industry-leading Brembo® brakes and a well-massaged braking system to achieve optimum performance.
The braking system on the Challenger SRT is designed to bring a 4,000-pound vehicle traveling at 170 miles per hour to a dead stop. The Challenger does this with performance-engineered precision thanks to Brembo components, including four-piston calipers paired with 14.2-inch rotors in the front and 13.8-inch discs on the rear. Together, they can take the Challenger SRT from 60 mph to 0 in an astounding 117 feet.
What's on the inside is just as important as what's on the outside. When you open the door of the Challenger SRT® you're greeted by an interior that befits the ultimate American muscle machine and the benchmark for the SRT brand. Striking seats are trimmed in leather, paddle shifters enable you to keep your focus on the road and crisp chrome accent rings highlight the SRT-specific instruments. Available leather hues include black and Radar Red. The shifter knob is unique, boasting the "392" insignia. The optional Harman Kardon® Logic 7 Surround Sound System pumps out double the acoustic power of a standard system, but doesn't sacrifice a bit of the superb sound quality.
