2012 Charger SRT8®

The cage – unlocked. The gloves – off. The 2012 Dodge Charger SRT8 will no longer suffer the slings and arrows of half-baked, untested competitors. A whole new powertrain, a reworked suspension and wind-tunnel refined sheet metal have unleashed a beast on the world. Well-appointed and re-stitched from the inside out, the Charger SRT8 is far more than merely fast.

6.4L Hemi

Awe-Inspiring Powertrain

With the introduction of the new 6.4-liter HEMI® V-8, the Charger gets a massive boost in power. The new engine routes 470 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels through a five-speed automatic transmission. The improvements amount to increases of 45-hp and 50 lb-ft.

Drivers now possess more control via the steering wheel-mounted paddle shift function. The new powertrain rockets the Charger SRT8 form 0 to 60 mph in the high four-second range and down the quarter-mile in the high 12s. Both figures are major improvements over its predecessor.

To boost fuel economy, the new powertrain features Fuel Saver Technology, which shuts down four cylinders during light load applications.

Charger Handling

Outstanding Ride, Handling and Capability

The 2012 Charger SRT8 sports an all-new adaptive damping suspension (ADS). Auto and Sport modes carry two distinct outputs and can be selected on-the fly. The system quickly reacts to driver inputs, steering angle, road surfaces, throttle position and lateral acceleration. The result is a noticeable yet seamless adaptation to nearly any driving style.

Lightweight forged 20-inch split five-spoke wheels are bolted to each corner. Standard high-performance rubber translated driver inputs to the asphalt with precision.

Charger Braking

Benchmark Braking

Each corner is fitted with four-piston Brembo calipers that clamp to vented and slotted rotors measuring 14.2 and 13.8 inches front and rear. Cooling ducts keep the system operating smoothly for consistent results.

The new Ready Alert Braking system anticipates emergency stops and gently primes the brakes, decreasing the time it takes to stop.

Charger Rear Taillamps

Aggressive and Functional Exterior

In addition to a deeply scalloped side profile, the Charger SRT8 wears distinct front and rear fascias and a new decklid spoiler. Each wind tunnel-tested component provides optimum stability and cooling at high speeds. Crafted from lightweight aluminum, the new chisled hood evokes a strong presence. The blacked-out crosshair grille is flanked by High-intensity discharge projector low beams. No fewer than 164 LEDs combine to make up the redesigned "racetrack" stoplamp design.

Charger Interior

Race-Inspired and High-Performance Interior

The base Charger's newly appointed interior was a great starting point. SRT8 passengers sit in bolstered black or Radar Red leather seats with suede inserts to keep them in place during aggressive cornering. A flat-bottom leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shift handles is designed to instill confidence at speed.

An 8.4-inch touch screen display, available Harman Kardon audio system, which pumps 900 watts of power through 19 acoustically placed speakers. Drivers can also use the screen to keep tabs on performance metrics, with instant feedback on 0-60 mph time, 60-0 mph braking, G-forces, eighth-mile and quarter-mile times all viewable through the touch-screen interface.
